The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Word for Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.0a, 5.1
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

Word gives the following error message:

   There is another Publisher open to the Edition "<edition filename>".
   If there is more than one Publisher to an Edition, the
   Edition's contents aren't predictable.

CAUSES
======

This error message occurs under two circumstances:

 - Two publishers publish to the same edition file.

   Word gives this error message as a warning. The message does not
   indicate damage to the Word document. Upon updating, the edition
   file will contain information from the last-changed publisher. To
   determine the contents of an edition file, double-click the
   edition's icon in the Finder.

 - A header or footer containing publisher information was closed.

   Microsoft is aware of the problem with the error message appearing
   while closing a header or footer, and will post more information
   here as it becomes available. Despite the error message, the
   publisher should behave normally, with no special problems.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for the Macintosh
versions 5.0, and 5.1. This problem was corrected in Word for the Macintosh
version 6.0.
