SUMMARY
=======

The following information describes how to transfer files from
AppleWorks to Microsoft Works 3.0 using Apple File Exchange (AFE).

1. Use normal procedures to save the AppleWorks files onto a ProDOS
   formatted 3.5-inch disk.

2. If the Works to Works Transporter file is in the same folder on
the Macintosh as the Apple File Exchange application, it must be
removed. (The Works to Works Transporter should only be used in
transferring AppleWorks files to Microsoft Works 2.0.)

If the Macintosh is an LC or LCII with an Apple IIe card installed,
disable the Apple IIe card before running Apple File Exchange. To
   do this, see the following:

With System 7.x, restart the computer while holding down the SHIFT
key until the computer says, "Welcome to Macintosh. Extensions
   off." (This disables any extensions).

With System 6.x, remove the ProDOS File System file from the
System folder, then restart your computer.

3. Start the Apple File Exchange application.

4. Insert the ProDOS disk containing the AppleWorks file(s) to be
   converted.

5. Pull down the ProDOS-to-Mac menu, and verify that Default
Translation is the ONLY option selected.

6. Select the AppleWorks file(s) to be transferred from the window on
the right, which is the directory list of the ProDOS disk.

7. Click the Translate button. A dialog box should briefly appear
which indicates the Translation is the default translation. A
translated copy of the AppleWorks file will appear in the window on
the left, which is the directory list of the Macintosh hard disk.

8. Quit Apple File Exchange.

9. Start the Microsoft Works program and open the translated
AppleWorks file(s) from within the Works application.

If the converters for Microsoft Works 3.0 are not in the correct
location, the translated file will not appear in the Choose Type
   dialog box directory listing.

NOTE: Filenames may need to have an .AW2 or AW extension on the end
of the filename for Works to translate properly.

All Works conversion files should be in the following location:

   Microsoft Works folder:Tools:Conversions

KBCategory: kbother
KBSubcategory: macworkskb
