SYMPTOM
=======

Double-clicking a Word Settings file generates the following error
message:

   The document "Word Settings (5)" could not be opened, because the
   application "Microsoft Word" could not be found. Could not find a
   translation extension with appropriate translators.

CAUSE
=====

Apple's "Macintosh Easy Open Setup" version 1.0 CP is installed on the
Macintosh. This utility is unaware that Word can open a Settings file.

WORKAROUND

To successfully start Word from a Settings file, turn Easy Open off:

1. From the Apple menu, choose Control Panels.

2. Open the Macintosh Easy Open Setup control panel. Select the OFF
   button (no need to restart the Macintosh) and close the control
   panel.
