1. Q. How do I upgrade from version 2.0 of Microsoft PowerPoint
for the Macintosh to version 3.0 of Microsoft PowerPoint for the
Macintosh?
A. To obtain PowerPoint version 3.0, call the Microsoft Order Desk at
(800) 360-7561. If you are outside the United States, contact the
Microsoft subsidiary for your area. To locate your subsidiary, see
the Microsoft World Wide Offices Web site at:
http://www.microsoft.com/worldwide/default.htm
2. Q. What are the minimum hardware and software requirements for
version 3.0 of Microsoft PowerPoint for the Macintosh?
A. To run PowerPoint 3.0, you need the following:
- An Apple Macintosh machine with a 030 or higher processor
- Apple System Software 7.0 or later
- A minimum of 4 megabytes (MB) of RAM
- A hard disk
- A high-density floppy disk drive
3. Q. What features are new to version 3.0 of Microsoft PowerPoint
for the Macintosh?
A. PowerPoint 3.0 is significantly different from earlier versions.
It includes improvements for handling text and outlining,
managing your presentations, drawing and graphing, and presenting
on-screen slide shows.
PowerPoint 3.0 is more powerful than PowerPoint 2.0. It is better
integrated for use with other Microsoft applications and is
easier to use.
The new features in PowerPoint include the following:
- The toolbar provides one-step shortcuts for many common tasks.
- Outline View lets you create and work with the content of your
presentation as an outline. In this view, you can view and edit
fonts, sizes, and styles.
- PowerPoint includes 160 templates that are customized for
various kinds of output.
- With the PowerPoint Viewer, you can run slide shows on machines
that do not have PowerPoint installed.
- The new Freeform drawing tool lets you draw polygons or
freeform shapes. You can also edit these shapes point by point.
- The new Shape tool allows you to choose from an extensive
palette of shapes and then draw that shape as easily as drawing
a square.
- PowerPoint 3.0 comes with more than 500 pieces of color clip art
that can be ungrouped and edited.
- Your on-screen slide shows can include any or all of the 30
build effects and 45 transition effects now available.
- You can export outlines in the rich-text format (RTF) format.
- PowerPoint comes with 22 additional TrueType fonts to provide
you with a complete set of 35 PostScript-equivalent fonts.
4. Q. Should I install Microsoft PowerPoint version 3.0 for the
Macintosh over my current copy of PowerPoint version 2.0?
A. When you decide to install PowerPoint 3.0, consider the
following:
- Is your entire office converting to PowerPoint 3.0, or are some
coworkers continuing to use version 2.0?
Because PowerPoint 3.0 has many added features and is
significantly different from earlier versions, you cannot open
PowerPoint 3.0 files in PowerPoint 2.0. As a result, you may
want to install PowerPoint 3.0 into a different directory, so you
can keep and use your PowerPoint 2.0 installation as well.
