SYMPTOMS
========

When you install the Windows Printing System (WPS) on an IBM PS/1 or PS/2
machine, the following problems may occur:

 - The machine may appear to hang while the error "Searching for Local
   Printers" appears, or you may receive an error message saying that the
   "Installation Program could not find a local printer to automatically
   install."

   -or-

 - When you print to the IBM PS/1 or PS/2 using the WPS, the print job
   appears in Print Manager for a short time and then disappears. Printing
   never occurs.

CAUSE
=====

IBM PS/1 and PS/2 machines have the ability to automatically turn the
parallel port on and off without warning. This switching interferes with
WPS operability.
