SUMMARY
=======

Word does not accommodate subscripts/superscripts of a different width
than the text surrounding them. This problem can be dealt with by
using a character style for the subscripts/superscripts and, in that
style, defining the character to be of a different (smaller) font.

When the style is applied, the character position will be shifted to
account for the smaller font. Small Caps do not have this problem. To
handle Small Caps, Word shifts all text to uppercase and reduces the
font size to the next smallest size available within the same font.
