The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b,
   2.0c, 6.0
 - Microsoft Word for Macintosh, version 5.1
 - Microsoft Equation Editor, version 2.0

SYMPTOMS
========
An equation created in the Equation Editor version 2.0 (installed with Word
6.0 for Windows) will not convert to Word 5.1 for the Macintosh. When you
open the document in Word for the Mac (using the Word for the Macintosh
converter), the equation will appear correctly; but when you double-click
it, the Equation Editor will start, but the equation won't be there.
Quitting the Equation Editor will leave an empty object in the document
where the equation had been. This happens even if you don't want to update
the object.

CAUSE
=====
This problem can occur if Word 2.0 and Word 6.0 for Windows reside on the
same machine or if Word 6.0 has previously been installed. If you create
the document in Word 2.0 and select "Microsoft Equation 1.0" in the Insert
Object dialog box, the Equation Editor version 2.0 may be activated instead
of version 1.0.
To verify the active version of Equation Editor, choose About Equation
Editor from the Help menu while in the Equation Editor.

STATUS
======
