SYMPTOMS
========

Changes made to the default style sheet while in one document do not appear
in other existing documents.

For example, in a document called Memo, you create a style called Date and
add it to the default style sheet. Date appears in new documents and in
your Memo document, but not in old documents. Similarly, if you change an
existing standard style in Memo, such as Heading 1, and add the change to
the default style sheet, old documents do not take on the change.

CAUSE
=====

Word behaves this way so that styles in documents retain the formats that
you assign to them, regardless of changes made in the future in other
documents. Changes made to the default style sheet while in one document
apply only to that document and to new documents. Changes never apply to
other existing documents.
