To use information from a Word 1.x or 3.x for the Macintosh document in
Word for Windows, follow these steps:

NOTE: This procedure requires a Macintosh computer.

1. If your Macintosh computer is based on any other microprocessor than the
68040 microprocessor (for example, 68000, 68020, or 68030), obtain an
update to Word version 4.0d (revision h) for the Macintosh.

You can have the Word 4.0d (revision h) update mailed to you by
calling the Microsoft Order Desk at (800) 360-7561 and requesting
the Word 4.0d (revision h) for the Macintosh (part number 034-096-S70)

If you have Word 1.0 for the Macintosh documents and your computer
utilizes the 68040 microprocessor, you will need to continue working
with these documents in Word 1.0, and author new documents Word for
Windows. You will not be able to use your Word 1.0 for the Macintosh
   documents in Word for Windows.

If you have Word 3.0 for the Macintosh documents and your computer
utilizes the 68040 microprocessor, you will need to update to Word 6.0
for the Macintosh in order to open these files, or you can access a
   converter from a third-party vendor.

2. Install the Word 4.x program update on your Macintosh. Then, open your
Word 1.x or 3.x document into Word 4.x and resave it in Word 4.x format.

3. Transfer the document from the Macintosh to your Windows PC and open the
Word 4.x document directly into Word for Windows.
