SYMPTOMS
========

Pictures and the icons for Annotations and Voice Annotations appear as gray
boxes in a Word document.

CAUSE
=====

You have Picture Placeholders selected. To disable Picture Placeholders,
choose Preferences from the Tools menu (Edit menu in Word 4.0), and select
the View category. Clear the check box for Picture Placeholders.

The Picture Placeholders feature speeds scrolling by displaying gray
rectangles instead of graphics, but having it selected does not affect the
way graphics print.

NOTE: Annotations and Voice Annotations are not available in Word 4.0.
