  • Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, versions 4.0 and 4.0a

SUMMARY

Microsoft PowerPoint includes a Setup program that can be used to modify your installation of PowerPoint. This Setup program is not automatically installed even if you choose to perform a complete installation of PowerPoint. This is to reduce the amount of disk space required for a complete setup of PowerPoint.

Installing the Setup program offers the following advantages:

  • You have an icon that provides easy access to maintenance mode setup for modifying your existing installation.
  • The Setup program starts faster because it doesn't have to load from a floppy disk each time.

MORE INFORMATION

The following section describes the procedures to get the Setup program installed either during an initial installation of PowerPoint or using the maintenance mode of Setup after you have already installed PowerPoint.

If you have not yet installed PowerPoint, you can force the Setup program to install the Setup program and icon by doing the following:

  1. Run SETUP.EXE from either Disk 1 or from a shared location on a network server.

  2. When you are asked if you want to perform a Typical, Complete/Custom, or Laptop (minimum) installation, choose to perform the Complete/Custom installation.

  3. In the Complete/Custom dialog box, select the Tools option and then choose the Change Option button.

  4. In the Tools dialog box, note that the default is for the Setup tool to not be installed. Choose the check box next to the Setup option in the Tools dialog and then choose the OK button to return to the Complete/Custom dialog.

  5. Continue with the rest of the installation process.

If PowerPoint has already been installed, run Setup in maintenance mode to add the Setup program to your PowerPoint installation, by doing the following:

  1. Run the SETUP.EXE program from the same location that was used to originally install PowerPoint on your computer (either from the disks or from a shared location on a network server).

  2. When the PowerPoint maintenance installation dialog appears, choose the Add/Remove button.

  3. In the maintenance mode dialog box that appears, select the Tools option and then choose the Change Option button.

  4. Select the Setup check box in the Tools dialog box and then choose the OK button to return to the maintenance mode dialog box.

  5. Make sure that the Tools check box is selected and choose OK to continue with the rest of the maintenance mode installation process.

NOTE: To conserve disk space, PowerPoint 4.0 and 4.0a do not install the Setup program when you choose to perform a complete installation of PowerPoint.

For consistency with other applications, 4.0c will now install the Setup program when you choose a complete installation.
