TITLE :Backup Doesn't Create BACKUP.LOG After SP 2
PRODUCT :Windows NT
PROD/VER:3.10
OPER/SYS:WINDOWS
KEYWORDS:BUGLIST3.10.003

----------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft U.S. Service Pack 2 for Windows NT
   and Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1
----------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

After installing U.S. Service Pack 2, Backup no longer creates a BACKUP.LOG
file in the expected directory when started from the command line. Instead
of storing BACKUP.LOG in the directory you specify, Backup stores it in the
\WINNT (or system root directory). It also only creates a file of two bytes
in length.

CAUSE
=====

This is a problem that occurred after converting Backup to recognize
Unicode.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows NT and Windows NT
Advanced Server version 3.1. We are researching this problem and will post
new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes
available.
