INTRODUCTION
============

The disk provided with this Application Note contains AB.DLL, a
replacement for the AB.DLL file that is included with version 3.2 of
Microsoft Mail for PC Networks. This update includes the following
modification:

 - If you use the Name Finder option of the address book to find a set
of names that match only a given prefix, and if no matches to that
prefix are found, an error dialog box is displayed. Until you
choose the OK button to close the dialog box, the GAL.NME file
remains open. If the dialog box stays up for an extended amount of
time (for example, overnight), directory synchronization (Dir-Sync)
cannot update the GAL.NME file and an ''Error 203'' message
   results.

To update your AB.DLL file
--------------------------

1. Insert the enclosed WA0899 disk in your floppy disk drive.

2. At the MS-DOS command prompt, type the following and press ENTER

      copy <drive>:\ab.dll <destination>

where <drive> is the floppy disk drive containing the WA0899 disk
and <destination> is the drive and directory where your AB.DLL file
currently resides. For example, if your AB.DLL file is located in
the MAILEXE directory on drive C and the WA0899 disk is in drive A,
   type the following command:

      copy a:\ab.dll c:\mailexe

A message will be displayed stating: 1 file(s) copied. This
indicates that your AB.DLL file has been successfully replaced.

3. At the MS-DOS command prompt, type the following and press ENTER

      copy <mailexe>\setup.inf <mailexe>\setupinf.old

where <mailexe> is the complete path to the directory containing
the Microsoft Mail for Windows SETUP.EXE program. For example, if
SETUP.EXE is located in the MAILEXE directory on drive C, type the
   following command:

      copy c:\mailexe\setup.inf c:\mailexe\setupinf.old

A message will be displayed stating: 1 file(s) copied. This
indicates that your SETUP.INF file has been successfully copied.

4. Using any text editor, edit the SETUP.INF file. In the [MsMail
System] section, replace the following line

      1, ab.dll,,,, 1993-03-09, !DECOMPRESS,, OLDER, !READONLY
      ,,,,, SHARED, 97600,,,, 3.2.0.4027,

   with:

      1, ab.dll,,,, 1993-08-09, !DECOMPRESS,, OLDER, !READONLY
      ,,,,, SHARED, 97600,,,, 3.2.0.4048,

Save the file and close the text editor.

NOTE: For these changes to affect the entire network, each existing
   user must run Setup again.
