Connection to CompuServe
------------------------
 
A modem and telecommunications software are required to connect to
CompuServe. The telecommunications software is necessary to act as an
interface between the computer and CompuServe.
 
If you have a CompuServe account, but need assistance with logging on, call
(800) 848-8990.
 
Steps to Download MSL Files
---------------------------
 
NOTE: The following example uses a search on the keyword "HC505". The file
is then downloaded using the XModem protocol. The search criteria and
download protocol you use will likely be different. The messages seen in
this example will also vary from the messages in your download session
according to the search criteria, the selected files, and the download
protocol you specify.
 
 1. Log on to CompuServe.
 
 2. At the Enter Choice! prompt, type the following and then press ENTER:
 
       GO MSL
 
 3. The following menu appears:
 
       Microsoft
 
       Current selection: 1151 file(s)
 
       SELECT SEARCH CRITERIA:
        1 Keyword                 [  ]
        2 SNumber                 [  ]
        3 File Name               [  ]
        4 Display Selected Titles
        5 Begin a New Search
 
       Enter choice !
 
    To search on a keyword, press 1, and then press ENTER.
 
 4. The following prompt appears:
 
      Please Enter Keyword:
 
    Type "HC505" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.
 
 5. The following menu appears:
 
       Microsoft
 
       Current selection: 1 file(s)
 
       SELECT SEARCH CRITERIA:
        1 Keyword                 [ HC505 ]
        2 SNumber                 [  ]
        3 File Name               [  ]
        4 Display Selected Titles
        5 Begin a New Search
 
       Enter choice !
 
    At the Enter choice ! prompt, press 4 to Display Selected Titles,
    and then press ENTER.
 
 6. The following appears:
 
       Microsoft   MSL-1026
 
       S14344 hc505.exe Latest Version of 3.1 Help Compiler
 
       Updated version of HCP.EXE (version 3.10.505) that sets the
       internal limit to 64K. File contains HC.EXE, HCP.EXE, and two
       .ERR files. Uploaded: January 27, 1994.
 
       Enter "DOWN" to download !
 
    Type "DOWN" (without the quotation marks), and then press ENTER.
 
 7. The following appears:
 
       DOWNLOAD Protocol (B, X, X1K, Y) :
 
    Type "X" (without the quotation marks) for XModem, and then press
    ENTER.
 
 8. The following is displayed:
 
       Starting XMODEM send.
 
       Please initiate XMODEM receive
       and press <CR> when the transfer
       is complete.
 
 9. Instruct your telecommunications software to begin receiving the file.
 
10. After the file is received, press ENTER.
 
11. Type "BYE" (without the quotation marks) and then press ENTER to exit
    from CompuServe.
 
12. Use your telecommunications software to hang up the modem connection.
