SYMPTOMS
========

If you save a PowerPoint 4.0 or 4.0a for Windows presentation as a
PowerPoint 3.0 format file, you may lose the ability to update any
linked objects in the presentation. For example:

1. Link a .BMP file into a PowerPoint 4.0 or 4.0a presentation using the
   Windows Paintbrush program.

2. Save the file in PowerPoint 3.0 format.

3. Make changes to the .BMP file using Paintbrush.

4. Open the PowerPoint 3.0 presentation in PowerPoint 4.0 and attempt
   to update the linked object. Nothing happens.

The linked objects will have to be deleted and then new linked objects
must be inserted into the presentation. The ability to update the link
is lost as soon as the file is saved as a PowerPoint 3.0 file from
PowerPoint 4.0 (you won't be able to update the linked objects from
PowerPoint 3.0 either).

STATUS
