The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, versions 4.0 and 4.0a

SUMMARY
=======

The Title Case option in the Change Case command for PowerPoint for Windows
does not recognize that characters following a "smart"
or "curly" apostrophe should not be capitalized.

For example, if you use the Title Case option to change the capitalization
of the word

   can't

you get the word:

    Can'T

Notice that both the first letter and the letter following the apostrophe
are capitalized.

This only happens if you are using the option to Replace Straight Quotes
With Smart Quotes in the Options dialog. This option automatically maps
the standard keyboard apostrophe (ANSI code 039) with a diacritical or
"curly" apostrophe (ANSI code 146). If you use a standard keyboard
apostrophe, the word will be capitalized correctly when you use the Title
Case option.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at
the beginning of this article.
