SYMPTOMS
========
If you are using STAC Electronics Stacker disk-compression program version
4.0 and Windows for Workgroups version 3.11, you cannot use 32-bit file
access on any compressed drive.
NOTE: 32-bit disk access is still available on any compressed or
uncompressed drive.

CAUSE
=====
Stacker uses a file called STACKER.COM, which is referenced in the
CONFIG.SYS file, to mount the Stacker-compressed drives. This file disables
32-bit file access.

RESOLUTION
==========
To work around this problem, STAC Electronics suggests that you use
SMARTDrive as a cache. SMARTDrive should be listed in the AUTOEXEC.BAT
file. To add SMARTDrive to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, use Windows Notepad or
an ASCII text editor (such as Microsoft MS-DOS Editor) to open the file and
add the following line:
   c:\windows\smartdrv.exe /x

MORE INFORMATION
================
You can use the 386 Enhanced icon in Control Panel to set up a swap file
and 32-bit file access for any uncompressed drive. Stacker adds an icon
called Virtual Memory to Control Panel. You can set up a swap file on any
drive and enable 32-bit disk access with this icon.
