SYMPTOMS
========

You may find that when you try to embed or play Media Player objects, you
receive an error message indicating that PowerPoint is unable to launch or
communicate with the server. You may also notice that the Media Player icon
has been deleted, and that when you try to insert an object, Media Clip is
no longer included in the Object Type list.

This problem may occur when you choose the Reinstall option in the
maintenance mode of the PowerPoint Setup program. If you perform a
workstation installation of PowerPoint and then choose Reinstall to run the
installation again, the Media Player icon and its WIN.INI and REG.DAT file
entries will be deleted.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the PowerPoint 4.0
Setup program. We are researching this problem and will post new
information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
