 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, versions 4.0 and 4.0a

SUMMARY
=======

When performing an administrative installation of PowerPoint for Windows to
a shared network location, you may get the following error message:

   You chose a directory that contains one or more files. When using
   the /a switch, you must install to an empty directory to avoid
   overwriting files that are required by network users.

MORE INFORMATION
================

If you are simply reinstalling the same version of PowerPoint, you should
do the following:

1. Make sure that no users are using PowerPoint.

2. Move any custom files, such as company standard templates, from
   the shared PowerPoint directory and subdirectories.

3. Delete all files and directories from the shared PowerPoint
   directory.

4. Reinstall PowerPoint.

If you are attempting to update version 2.0 or 3.0 of PowerPoint, do the
following:

1. Install PowerPoint 4.0 to a different directory.

2. Have users licensed to use the upgrade installation of PowerPoint 4.0
   from the different location.

3. If everyone is upgrading, then you can safely remove the PowerPoint
   2.0 or 3.0 files.

If you are updating an installation of PowerPoint 3.0, which was installed
as part of Microsoft Office 4.0, you will not be able to install PowerPoint
4.0 to workstations using the network Office 4.0 Setup (because it only
knows about PowerPoint 3.0).
