 - Microsoft Project for the Macintosh, version 4.0

SYMPTOMS
========

In Microsoft Project, when you select information in one field and drag it
to another field in a table, and the information is not valid for the
column you are moving it to, you receive an error message that cancels the
move, and the information is not restored to the original field.

WORKAROUND
==========

When you drag information from one field to another, and the
information is not valid for the destination field so that the move
is canceled, you can choose Undo from the Edit menu to restore the
information to the original field.

CAUSE
=====

When you drag information from one field to another, two different
actions are occurring: first, the information is cut from the original
cell, and then it is pasted to the destination cell. If the information is
not valid for the destination cell, the paste is canceled, or "undone."
However, the first action, the cut from the original cell, cannot be
undone.

Note that this drag-and-drop method for moving information does not
use the Windows Clipboard, so you cannot choose Paste from the Edit
menu to restore the information.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior
---------------------------

1. In a new project, enter a task, T1.

2. Select T1, and move the mouse cursor to the bottom left corner of the
   Task Name field (the cursor changes to an arrow). Click the mouse and
   drag the Task Name to the Duration column.

The following error message appears:

   ID 1 Column 3

   Duration not valid

   Choose Yes to continue messages, No to stop messages, Cancel to stop
   paste.

Regardless of which button you choose, the information is not pasted,
and T1 no longer appears in the Task Name field.
