SYMPTOMS
========

In Microsoft Project, when you copy a row in a project and paste it
to an adjacent row by pressing the CTRL key and dragging the row to
the previous or following row, a blank row is inserted between the
copied and the pasted row.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft
products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching
this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft
Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND
==========

To create adjacent rows in Microsoft Project, do any of the following:

 - Select the row you want to duplicate, and any following rows you want to
   fill with the information. Choose Fill Down from the Edit menu.

   -or-

 - Press the CTRL key and drag the selected row to the adjacent row. Then
   select the blank row, and choose Delete Task from the Edit menu.

   -or-

 - Copy the selected row by choosing Copy from the Edit menu. Select the
   row following the row you copied, and choose Paste from the Edit menu.
   (Note that this method only works to paste a row to the row following
   the copied row. When you paste a row to the row previous to the copied
   row, a blank row is inserted between the two.)

Steps to Reproduce Behavior
---------------------------

1. In a new project, in row ID 5, enter a task, T5.

2. Select row ID 5 to select the entire record that contains T5. Press the
   CTRL key, click the ID column for row 5, and drag the selected record to
   row ID 4.

The selected record is pasted to row ID 4, and the original record is
now row ID 6.

3. Select row ID 6 to select the entire record. Press the CTRL key, click
   the ID column for row 6, and drag the selected record to row ID 7.

The selected record is pasted to row ID 8. A blank row is inserted
between the row you copied and the row you pasted to.
