MSDN or TechNet Err Msg: Cannot Use MSDNCD.DLL
Article ID: Q114033
Revision Date: 21-MAR-1995

The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN), DISK 6, DISK 8
 - Microsoft TechNet, April 1994

SYMPTOMS
The following error message may occur when you run TechNet or MSDN:

Cannot use msdncd.DLL; it is an incorrect version or damaged

RESOLUTION

To correct the above error message:

1. Make sure CTL3D.DLL and VER.DLL are not corrupt. MSDN and TechNet (April
1994) should have the following file sizes:

   CTL3D.DLL
   ---------

   20976

   VER.DLL
   -------

   9008

2. Verify that the most recent versions of CTL3D.DLL and VER.DLL are
   being used.

   CTL3D.DLL
   ---------

   MSDN 9/15/93
   TechNet (April 1994) 1/5/94

   VER.DLL
   -------

   MSDN 12/7/93
   TechNet (April 1994) 3/4/92

3. Verify the location the MSDNCD.DLL line in the [Files] section of
VIEWER.INI. For example, if you have MSDN and your VIEWER.INI path is

      MSDNCD.DLL=C:\MSDNCD\,Library missing. Rerun Microsoft Development
      Library Setup,

then MSDNCD.DLL should exist only in the C:\MSDNCD directory
(unless TechNet is also installed; then it will be in that directory
   as well).

4. Check that MSDNCD.DLL exists only in the specified directory in step 3
(that is, it does not exist anywhere else in the path statement or in
   the Windows directory).
