The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a

SYMPTOM
=======

When you open a WordPerfect document that contains multiple graphics into
Word 6.0 or 6.0a for Windows, one graphic may appear in place of several
other graphics. For example, if a 10-page document contains a different
graphic on each page, the first of the 10 images may appear in all 10
locations throughout the converted document.

CAUSE
=====

This problem only occurs when a graphic is embedded in a box represented in
WordPerfect binary format as code 145. This code is referenced only as
"reserved" in WordPerfect's binary file format and is not included in their
listing of codes that normally represent embedded WPG graphics. This
occurrence is rare.

Currently, when Word's converter encounters this nonstandard code, the
converter doesn't increment a count of graphics in the document. As a
result, subsequent graphics are replaced by the picture originally embedded
at the location of code 145.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the WordPerfect converter
supplied with Word 6.0 and 6.0a for Windows. This problem was corrected in
the WordPerfect converter supplied with Word 6.0c for Windows and later
versions of Word.

WORKAROUND
==========

If you experience this problem and have access to WordPerfect, you can
reopen the document in WordPerfect, edit each graphic, and choose the
option to link to the graphic on disk. When you subsequently reconvert the
document, the display problem may still appear initially, but you can
update fields (by selecting the entire document and pressing F9) to
reinsert each WPG image from disk and restore the correct appearance.
