Question:
A number of complaints have surfaced about Microsoft languages not
working properly on PC XENIX 1.0 and SCO XENIX 5.0. The PC XENIX 1.0
problems are due to incompatibilities between C and FORTRAN in the
run-time libraries. There is a software update that corrects these.
I now have a pre-release of PC XENIX 2.0 and wanted to put
Microsoft FORTRAN and Pascal on it. I have the following questions:
   1. Has anyone looked into the msinstall script? Has it been
rewritten?
   2. Is there a formal procedure for people wanting to install
FORTRAN or Pascal onto a XENIX V system?
   3. If I you have the XENIX V software development kit, are the
libraries compatible with the FORTRAN/Pascal libraries?
   4. Regarding the 1.3 megabyte limit on XENIX III files, is this an
operating system limitation? If so, is it removed with XENIX V? Can I
recompile my programs under XENIX V to get over this limitation?

Response:
   1. Yes, the msintall script has been rewritten for XENIX FORTRAN
3.31. It is a much better installation, allowing you different options
concerning whether or not libraries are written over or saved, etc.
   2. Yes, you will use msinstall to install either FORTRAN or Pascal
onto XENIX V.
   3. Yes, the FORTRAN/Pascal Version 3.31 libraries are compatible
with XENIX V.
   4. The file size limit in XENIX III was 1 megabyte. In XENIX V the
default file size limit is 2 megabytes, but that is flexible and users
may set it to something larger than 2 megabytes if they choose.
