SYMPTOMS
========

If the Decimal Separator option in the International section of the Windows
Control Panel is set to something other than a period (.), Works cannot
interpret fractional numbers correctly if you attempt to use the period (.)
as the decimal separator.

Decimal numbers entered into a cell or field in the spreadsheet or database
are interpreted as text. With decimal numbers entered as settings, Works
usually interprets any number before the decimal as inches and ignores the
fractional part. This often causes the spacing seen to be MUCH greater than
anticipated.

Example
-------

For example, let's say you are using the Word Processor module, and the
Decimal Separator option is not set to a period (.), and you do the
following:

1. From the Format menu choose Paragraph.

2. Select the Breaks And Spacing tab.

3. Under Line Spacing, set Between Lines to 2.3.

Works will ignore the ".3" and the measurement will be interpreted as 2
inches (12 lines).

MORE INFORMATION
================

For more information about changing settings in the International section
of the Windows Control Panel, refer to the references indicated at the end
of this article.

NOTE: Works interprets fractional numbers correctly if you use the Decimal
Separator setting indicated in the International section of the Windows
Control Panel.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this problem do one of the following:

1. Set the Decimal Separator in the International section of the Windows
   Control Panel to a period (.).

   -or-

2. Modify the sDecimal line in the [intl] section of the WIN.INI so that it
   reads as follows

      sDecimal=.

   and verify that there are no duplicate [intl] sections or duplicate
   WIN.INI files.

   -or-

3. Use the Decimal Separator indicated in the International section of the
   Windows Control Panel for all fractional numbers in Works. NOTE: This
   may cause other problems in Works, such as using functions if the
   separator is a comma (,).

   -or-

4. Do not use fractional numbers in Works.
