The GC1030 disk included with this Application Note contains an
updated IBM Revisable-Form Text Document Content Architecture (RFT-
DCA) converter for use with versions 6.0 and 6.0a of Microsoft Word
for Windows. This is the first update of the RFT-DCA converter since
the release of Word 6.0a. This converter can be used to both read from
and write to RFT-DCA format.
If this shipment has arrived in unsatisfactory condition or you have
questions about installing or using the updated RFT-DCA converter,
please call Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS). In the United
States, call (206) 462-WORD (9673) between 6:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M.
Pacific time. Outside the United States, contact the Microsoft
subsidiary for your area. To locate your subsidiary, call Microsoft
International Customer Service at (206) 936-8661.

To install the RFT-DCA converter update
---------------------------------------
1. Copy the updated RFTDCA.CNV converter file from the enclosed GC1030
disk to the MSAPPS\TEXTCONV subdirectory in your Windows program
directory (usually C:\WINDOWS\MSAPPS\TEXTCONV). To do this:
   a. Insert the enclosed GC1030 disk in your floppy disk drive.
   b. From the MS-DOS command prompt, type the following and press
      ENTER
         copy <drive>:\rftdca.cnv <path>\msapps\textconv
where <drive> is the letter of your floppy disk drive and <path>
is the location of your Windows program directory. For example:
         copy a:\rftdca.cnv c:\windows\msapps\textconv
2. Quit Word (if you have it open) and restart Word.
3. From the File menu, choose Open. Select the Confirm Conversions
check box, which is located below the Help button. Select an RFT-
DCA format document or any other document Word cannot recognize
(for example, C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT) and choose OK.
4. When Word prompts you to open the file as Text Only, choose Cancel.
Word has now automatically installed the converter. The next time you
choose to open an RFT-DCA file, Word will automatically convert the
file or prompt you to open it as RFT-DCA if the Confirm Conversions
option is selected. The RFT-DCA file type option will also now appear
in the Save File As Type list in Word's Save As dialog box. You can
use this option to save files in RFT-DCA format.

Notes
-----
Problems corrected in this update include:
 - Misinterpretation of tab stops within Word table cells no longer
occurs when you save a Word 6.0 document in RFT-DCA format.
Previously, unnecessary RFT-DCA "Align:Center" codes were inserted
in each table cell in which a center-aligned tab stop was
encountered, and some other tab-stop alignment problems within
   table cells also occurred.
 - Table of Contents paragraph numbers no longer wrap to the following
   line in RFT-DCA format.
 - Some isolated problems with incorrect placement of tab stops in
normal body text have been corrected.
 - Problems with exporting and importing left, right, and hanging
indent formats to and from RFT-DCA format have been corrected.
 - An unwanted page number code is no longer inserted in the header
when you save a Word 6.0 document that contains a header in RFT-DCA
   format.
 - Smart quote characters ("curly" quotation marks) are no longer lost
when you save a Word 6.0 document in RFT-DCA format.
For more information about the RFT-DCA converter, double-click the
Help button on the Standard toolbar in Word, and then type README.
Press ENTER twice, choose File Conversion, choose Conversion
Limitations, and then choose the "Converting Between Microsoft Word
6.0 and RFT-DCA" topic.
