SYMPTOMS
========

When you print custom envelope paper sizes to the Lexmark IBM LaserPrinter
4019, the text is misaligned or prints off the envelope. This problem
occurs with both the optional envelope feeder and with manual feed. A
"paper jam" or "paper is too short/long" error message may also occur.

CAUSE
=====

The IBM LaserPrinter 4019 does not accept unknown paper sizes. It
automatically chooses the closest paper size based on the dimensions it is
given. Therefore, when you print a custom paper size, the printer picks the
closest known paper size and assumes that it is printing on that size.

WORKAROUND
==========

NOTE: Microsoft tested this workaround using the IBM 4019 PPDS printer
driver, IBM4019.DRV version 4.11.

1. Set the paper size to the next largest available envelope size in the
   driver.

   NOTE: Don't select letter size if you are using the envelope feeder.

2. Set the top and right margins in the document to accommodate the
   smaller envelope.

3. After printing, a "paper too short" error may still occur. On the
   printer, simultaneously press the green button and the reset button to
   clear the error.

Example: 3.5-Inch by 6.5-Inch Envelope
--------------------------------------

To print a 3.5-inch by 6.5-inch envelope, set the paper size to COM 10, set
the top margin to 1 inch, and set the right margin to 2.5 inches.
