SUMMARY

This article lists the problems in PowerPoint versions 4.0 and 4.0a for Windows that are corrected in PowerPoint 4.0c for Windows.

POWERPOINT 4.0 AND 4.0A PROBLEMS CORRECTED IN POWERPOINT 4.0C

Typical Setup Does Not Use All Disks

To reduce the time and effort required to install PowerPoint 4.0 and 4.0a, the files are arranged on the floppy disks to decrease the total number of disk swaps required for typical installation.

Unfortunately, this causes some confusion with customers. To eliminate the confusion, the 4.0c files have been distributed so that all disks are now required to perform a typical installation.

Complete Setup Does Not Install SETUP.EXE

To conserve disk space, PowerPoint 4.0 and 4.0a do not install the Setup program when you choose to perform a complete installation of PowerPoint.

For consistency with other applications, 4.0c will now install the Setup program when you choose a complete installation.

General Protection Fault When Adding VSHARE to SYSTEM.INI

If sections in your SYSTEM.INI file that come before the [386Enh] section are not separated by blank lines, a general protection (GP) fault is generated when PowerPoint 4.0 and 4.0a add the VSHARE entry to the SYSTEM.INI file. PowerPoint 4.0c Setup prevents this error.

               MSSETUP.DLL

Screen Colors Remap Incorrectly After Playing Movie During Slide Show

To eliminate palette corruption, the slides are redrawn after playing a movie. This may result in the appearance of the movie being rewound. In 4.0c, the slides are not redrawn unless you select Other as your category when you select Play Settings from the Tools menu.

Microsoft Access Crashes When Using Media Player

Microsoft Access does not always work with the Media Player that comes with PowerPoint versions 4.0 and 4.0a for Windows. A new Media Player is shipped with version 4.0c that addresses this problem.

ClipArt Gallery Won't Work If Windows Is Run from Root of Drive

Microsoft ClipArt Gallery versions 1.0 and 1.1 will not work if you are running Windows from the root of a logical drive. It produces the following error message:

The ClipArt Gallery cannot create an index file. You may not
have permission to create files on this disk or you may be having
   hardware problems.

This problem was corrected in PowerPoint 4.0c. For additional information, please see the following articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
