---------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

  - Microsoft Mail for PC Networks, version 3.0
---------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

In the "Workgroup Connection MS-DOS Client Users Guide" (page 7),
it mentions connecting to a moved postoffice by "... change the path
to the network directory that is associated with drive M."

Another way to state this is: "... change the path to the network
directory where the postoffice database is located, for example
M:\MAILDATA."

RESOLUTION
==========

If your Microsoft Mail Database is not on the M: drive or is not at
the root directory of the share you are attached to, you need to do
one or more of the following steps:

1. If your Microsoft Mail database is not at the root of the drive
letter you have chosen to define as your Mail database (typically the
M:\ drive), you will need to change to that drive letter and then
change to the root of the database.

For example, if your database is on the M:\ drive, but not at the
root, you will need to change to that directory by first changing to
that drive letter (such as M:), then typing,

      cd maildata

your prompt will now appear as "M:\MAILDATA>." Now, you may change
back to the drive where your mail executable file exists and type,

      mail

   to start the program.

2. If your Microsoft Mail database is not on the M: drive but at the
root of some other drive you are attached to or mapped to, use a
command line parameter when you start Mail to point Microsoft Mail to
   the proper location.

For example, if your Mail database is on your H:\ drive, you would
   type,

      mail -dh

to start the Mail program and point it to the H:\ drive. If your
Microsoft Mail database is on the H:\ drive, but not at the root of
the H:\ drive, follow step 1 (above) substituting H: for M:. Next
start Microsoft Mail using the command line:

      mail -dh
