SYMPTOMS
========
If you run the spelling checker in PowerPoint, it may not use the
correct language dictionary to check the spelling of the document.
For example, if you specify in PowerPoint to use the French
dictionary, it may in fact use the English dictionary.

RESOLUTION
==========
To solve the problem, manually modify the [MS Proofing Tools] section of
the WIN.INI file:

1. From the Accessories group in Program Manager, run Notepad.
2. In Notepad, choose Open from the File menu.
3. Where it asks for a filename, type the following and press ENTER:
      win.ini
4. Once the WIN.INI file opens, scroll down through the file until you
   reach the section called [MS PROOFING TOOLS].
5. In this section are several different "Spelling" entries. The
   four-digit number represents a certain language tool. For example,
   American English = 1033, and Swedish = 1053. PowerPoint uses the
   first entry in this section to choose which dictionary to use. As a
   result, if the first line in this section is not the correct entry,
   you will have to move the correct line to the first location.
6. Once the change is made in the WIN.INI file, save your work and
   exit Notepad. You need to restart Windows for your changes to take
   affect. The spelling checker should work properly now in PowerPoint.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in PowerPoint versions
4.0 and 4.0a. We are researching this problem and will post new
information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
