The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, versions 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a, 4.0c
---------------------------------------------------------------------

SUMMARY
=======

If desired, you can install and run both PowerPoint 3.0 for Windows
and PowerPoint 4.0 for Windows on the same machine. The order of
installation determines the required procedure for installing
both versions. If you want to run both programs simultaneously, rename the
POWERPNT.EXE file for PowerPoint 3.0.

MORE INFORMATION
================

If you have PowerPoint 3.0 and are installing PowerPoint 4.0:

1. During setup, you will be given an option of replacing PowerPoint
3.0 or installing PowerPoint 4.0 in a different directory. If you
want to be able to run both versions, choose the Change Directory
button and install PowerPoint in a directory other than POWERPNT
   (for example, POWERPT4).

2. You will be given the option to have your graphs automatically
updated to Graph 5. If you want to continue to use Graph 3 with
PowerPoint 3.0, choose the NO button.

If you have PowerPoint 4.0 on your system and want to install PowerPoint
3.0, do the following, as described in the PowerPoint Product Update
section of the PowerPoint Readme Help file:

1. Rename your PowerPoint 4.0 program file POWERPNT.EXE to another name
(for example, POWERPNT.SAV). This program file is located in your
   PowerPoint 4.0 directory.

2. Install PowerPoint 3.0. Do NOT install PowerPoint 3.0 to the directory
   where PowerPoint 4.0 resides.

3. When PowerPoint 3.0 installation is finished, rename your PowerPoint
4.0 program file back to POWERPNT.EXE

   Simultaneous Use
   ----------------

If both program files have the same name, you may experience difficulty
running both applications at the same time, depending upon the order
   you open them:

    - If you run PowerPoint 4.0 first, you should then be able to open
      PowerPoint 3.0.

    - If you run PowerPoint 3.0 first, you will not be able to open
      PowerPoint 4.0.

To work around this behavior, rename your PowerPoint 3.0 program file
POWERPNT.EXE to another name (for example, POWERPT3.EXE). This program
file is located in your PowerPoint 3.0 directory.

4. You may now open either PowerPoint version in any order.
