SYMPTOMS
========
In a multiple-section document, if you insert a SECTION field in a text box
that is located in any section other than section 1, the result of the
SECTION field is 1 (one) instead of the current section number.
This happens regardless of the type of section breaks you insert in your
document.

STATUS
======
We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND
==========
Use the following procedure to delete the SECTION field from the text box,
reinsert it elsewhere in the same section, bookmark the SECTION field, and
then insert a REF field in the text box that references the SECTION field
bookmark:

 1. In the text box, select the SECTION field.
 2. From the Edit menu, choose Cut.
 3. Position the insertion point outside the text box, in the same section.
 4. From the Edit menu, choose Paste.
 5. Select the SECTION field and press F9 to update it.
 6. While the SECTION field is still selected, choose Bookmark from the
    Edit menu.
 7. Type a bookmark name, such as "SectionNumber," and then choose OK.
 8. Position the insertion point in the text box in the location where you
    want the section number to appear.
 9. From the Insert menu, choose Field.
10. In the Field Names box, select Ref.
11. In the Field Codes box, position the insertion point after "REF " and
    type the name of the bookmark you defined in step 7 above. For example,
    type "SectionNumber" (without the quotation marks). Choose OK.
    In field code view, your field looks similar to the following
    sample:
       { REF SectionNumber \* MERGEFORMAT }
    In field code results view, your text box should contain the number of
    the current section.
