SUMMARY
=======
If you install Microsoft ClipArt Gallery as a shared application on a
network and then perform a Workstation Setup on a computer running Windows
locally, ClipArt Gallery tries to write the following files to the local
hard disk drive:

   ARTGALRY.IDX
   ARTGALRY.THM

This behavior is by design. (The individual users can then modify these
files.) However, the files may require as much as 6 megabytes (MB) of hard
disk space. In some cases, it is desirable to have only one copy of each of
these files and to store them on a network drive.
To share these .IDX and .THM files, create them on one workstation, move
them to the network, and then edit the ARTGALRY.INI file to point to the
new location. This updated ARTGALRY.INI file is then copied to all other
users' workstation Windows directories.
One drawback of this method is that users cannot customize their own
ClipArt Gallery Index. It is not possible to add or remove images from
ClipArt Gallery.

MORE INFORMATION
================
ClipArt Gallery ships with the following Microsoft products:

 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, versions 4.x
 - Microsoft Office for Windows, versions 4.x
 - Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.x
 - Microsoft Works for Windows, versions 3.x
 - Microsoft Publisher for Windows, versions 2.x

To share .IDX and .THM files on the network:
1. Complete an Administrative Setup of one of the applications that
   installs ClipArt Gallery to a server. During the Administrative Setup,
   choose to run the shared applications from the server, or allow the user
   to choose.
NOTE: In these steps, it is assumed that these files are installed on
N:\POWERPNT and the shared components are installed in N:\MSAPPS.
2. During Workstation Setup, install the shared files to the server. Make
   sure that all workstations use the same path.
3. Select one workstation. Start any application that supports OLE.
   Choose Insert An Object, then choose ClipArt Gallery. When asked
   if you want to add ClipArt, choose Yes.
4. ClipArt Gallery adds the clip-art files. Two new files, ARTGALRY.IDX and
   ARTGALRY.THM, are created on the workstation. The ARTGALRY.INI file will
   be updated to show their location.
5. Move the new ARTGALRY.IDX and ARTGALRY.THM files to a network location
   to which all users have read access, such as N:\MSAPPS\ARTGALRY. Mark
   these files with the Read Only attribute.
6. Open the ARTGALRY.INI file. Edit the Database= line in the [CLIPART]
   section of the ARTGALRY.INI file to show the new path for the
   ARTGALRY.IDX and ARTGALRY.THM files. For example:
      database=n:\msapps\artgalry, artgalry.idx,artgalry.thm
   The universal naming convention (UNC), \\server\share\path, can also be
   used here. For UNC, the line should read:
      database=\\server\share\path, artgalry.idx,artgalry.thm
7. Save the edited ARTGALRY.INI file and copy it to the Windows directory
   of each user, replacing the file already on the system.
8. When subsequent users try to access clip art, their ClipArt Gallery will
   look to the server location for these files.

NOTE: One drawback to this method is that all users must connect to the
server using the same drive designation. If one user connects to the server
with drive letter E and another connects using drive letter F, ClipArt
Gallery displays the thumbnails, but when trying to select a piece of clip
art, the user receives an error message. Using UNC during Setup and
subsequent steps should prevent this problem.
