On May 20, Microsoft Press will publish WINDOWS: The Official Guide to
Microsoft's Operating Environment. In this comprehensive book, author Nancy
Andrews demonstrates how serious computer users can increase productivity with
this low cost package. Microsoft Press will support this title with a major
print advertising campaign in July issues of PC World, InfoWorld, PC Week and
Business Software.
In the first part of WINDOWS, Andrews guides the reader through the basic
operations of the Windows environment. The author also introduces the seven
Windows desktop applications: Notepad, Calendar, Clock, Cardfile, Terminal,
Calculator and the game Reversi. The book shows how to choose commands from
menus, transfer information between these applications, and how to run MS-DOS
commands.
In addition to providing instructions on using Windows Write and Windows
Paint (the two full-featured applications that come with this package),
Andrews demonstrates how to create a document in one application, such as
Write, and bring in data from the other desktop applications.
Readers will learn how to customize their systems by running their favorite
applications under Windows. The book offers a thorough explanation of running
standard applications (programs not specifically written to work with
Windows), such as Microsoft Multiplan, dBASE III, and R:BASE III and Microsoft
Project, into a document under Windows Write.
WINDOWS provides an in-depth look at In-A-Vision, Micrografx's
sophisticated drawing program, to preview how the next generation of software
created for the Windows environment operates.
In addition, the book contains a helpful section on how to enhance Window's
performance with additional equipment, such as an Enhanced Graphics Adapter
card or Intel's Above Board/PC.
Nancy Andrews earned both Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in
