The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Mail Gateway to MCI, version 2.1b

SYMPTOMS
========

The Microsoft Mail Gateway to MCI incorrectly handles 7-bit ASCII
attachments sent to an MCI Mail address.

These attachments are commonly generated by foreign mail systems using
X.400 or Soft*Switch Central transport backends; the filename for such an
attachment is a seven followed by no file extension.

CAUSE
=====

The Windows client cannot view files without extensions. (The MS-DOS client
has no problem.)

RESOLUTION
