MICROSOFT EXCEL WITH MACROS
Continuing the Best-Selling Macintosh Book Library From Microsoft Press

One of the features that has made Microsoft Excel the best-selling program
for the Apple Macintosh is its macros capability, Macros enable the user to
record, edit, and repeat a complex series of commands with a few simple
keystrokes, saving time in setting up new templates or spreadsheet models, or
in entering and manipulating data. This June, Microsoft Press will release
MICROSOFT EXCEL WITH MACROS, a handy guide to creating and using macros to
increase productivity.
With the techniques found in MICROSOFT EXCEL WITH MACROS, Microsoft Excel
users will learn how to develop macros which create customized templates,
assemble a library of user-defined functions, and even create interactive
macros. Author Douglas Hergert begins with a conceptual introduction, and
moves on to offer a hands-on exercise to help readers familiarize themselves
with the characteristics and features of macro sheet. The author demonstrates
the differences between command and function macros, and explores the
advantages of using the Recorder feature of Microsoft Excel.
The second section of MICROSOFT EXCEL WITH MACROS introduces the reader to
macro programming. Accompanied by practical examples, the book examines
command-and action-equivalent functions, and their relation to macro
programming. Hergert offers techniques for storing, transferring, and working
with data in macros, as well as giving instructions for writing user-defined
functions and designing interactive programs. Later chapters offer concise
information on working with branching and decision structures, creating
repetition loops, and working with arrays.
The last section of the book discusses advanced programming techniques and
uses a specific macro example for the readers to work with and modify.
Throughout the book, Hergert has included a variety of exercises that readers
can enter and use to sharpen their skills. In all, this is a fine handbook
and reference for beginning to advanced users of Microsoft Excel.
Douglas Hergert is the author of several books, including Mastering
Framework, BASIC for Business, and Doing Business with Pascal. Doug's most
recent book, the best-selling COMMAND PERFORMANCE: dBASE III, was published
in December of 1985 by Microsoft Press.
Microsoft Corporation, based in Redmond, Washington, develops and sells a
