The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, versions 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a, and 4.0c

SYMPTOMS
========

If you insert a Windows metafile graphic (.wmf) created in MapInfo version
2.0 or 3.0 into a PowerPoint slide, you will get only an empty frame.

CAUSE
=====

PowerPoint does not use the shared graphics filter (Wmfimp.flt) for Windows
metafiles (the filter is located in the Windows Msapps\Grphflt
subdirectory). PowerPoint has its own internal filter.

NOTE: MapInfo Windows metafile pictures display properly in Microsoft Word
for Windows, Microsoft Excel, and other programs that use the shared
filter.

WORKAROUND
==========

1. If you double-click this empty text frame, or use the Ungroup command,
   the image is converted to PowerPoint drawing objects and is displayed
   correctly. You may receive an error "Too many objects in presentation to
   perform this operation." This error seems to occur with complex items
   created in MapInfo. This may also delete the box.

2. You can use Word to bring in the picture using Insert, Picture. Then
   double click on the picture which opens MS Draw. Select File, Update
   then select File, Close which returns to the document. Copy the picture
   from Word go into PowerPoint by selecting Edit, Paste special, Picture.
