SYMPTOMS
========

When you try to open a Works 4.0 file from another Macintosh computer that
is being shared, you receive the following error message:

   Access Denied

The Works 4.0 "User's Guide" incorrectly states that you can open as a
read-
only document a file that is being used by another person.

RESOLUTION
==========

To share a document, use either of the following methods:

Method 1
--------

1. Open the document.

2. From the File menu, choose Save As.

3. In the File Format box, select Stationery.

Method 2
--------

1. Close the document.

2. Select the document in the Finder.

3. From the File menu, choose Get Info.

4. In the Get Info dialog box, select the Stationery Pad check box.

5. Close the Get Info dialog box.

MORE INFORMATION
================

You receive the "Access Denied" error message when you try to open a file
that is already open on another Macintosh workstation or on the server.
Works 4.0 does not allow you to open a file that is already in use by
another person. This is a change from the behavior in Works versions 1.x,
2.x, and 3.x, which allow you to open a file as a read-only document when
the file is already in use.
