 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, version 4.0, 4.0a, and 4.0c
 - Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
 - Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1

SYMPTOMS
========

If you attempt to display a presentation twice consecutively by
running the PowerPoint Viewer from the Windows NT command line, you
may receive the following error message:

   PPTVIEW4 caused a General Protection Fault in Module OLE2NLS.DLL at
   XXXX:XXXX. Choose close and PPTVIEW4 will close.

After you choose Close, you must restart Windows NT to run any
applications.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE PROBLEM
==========================

1. From the File menu in either Program Manager or File Manager,
   choose Run.

2. In the Command Line box, type the pathname of PPTVIEW.EXE,
   followed by the presentation you want to display. For example:

      C:\POWERPNT\PPTVIEW.EXE C:\POWERPNT\SHOW.PPT

3. Show the entire presentation.

4. Repeat steps 1-2 and the error will occur.

MORE INFORMATION
================

In some cases, the General Protection fault is not displayed, and the
system stops responding (hangs) without an error message.

The error does not occur when starting the PowerPoint Viewer from its
icon, and then choosing the presentation you want to display.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in PowerPoint version
4.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information
here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
