-------------------------------------------------------------------
The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft PowerPoint for the Macintosh, version 4.0
 - Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 6.0, 6.0.1
 - Microsoft Office for the Macintosh, version 4.2, 4.2.1
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

You may receive the following error message when you choose to insert
a component by clicking its button in the toolbar:

   The server application, source file, or item cannot be found.
   Make sure the application is properly installed, and that it
   has not been deleted, moved, or renamed.

This message may appear for any and/or all OLE servers in the toolbar,
including Graph, Organization Chart, Word tables, Excel charts, and
ClipArt Gallery.

RESOLUTIONS
===========

There are three possible resolutions to the problem in addition to
following the instructions in the error message.

Resolution 1
------------

1. From the Insert menu, choose Object.

2. Select the type of component (for example, Graph) desired and choose
   OK. The button for that application should now work properly.

3. Repeat these steps for the other OLE server applications.

Resolution 2
------------

If Resolution 1 does not solve the problem, use the following steps:

1. Locate the server application on the hard drive. Graph, Org Chart,
   and ClipArt Gallery are located in the Microsoft folder; Word
   and Excel are in their respective folders.

2. Double-click the application file to run it. If you run one of the
   Microsoft OLE servers such as Graph, Org Chart, or ClipArt Gallery, you
   should receive a message indicating that it can only be run from within
   other applications. Press Yes to quit.

3. Run PowerPoint and click the OLE server application button
   on the toolbar.

4. Repeat these steps for the other OLE servers.

Resolution 3
------------

If neither of the above solves the problem, remove the Registration
Database, located in System Folder:Preferences from the hard drive,
and reinstall PowerPoint 4.0.

One test to see of the Registration Database is not functioning properly is
to try and insert an object from PowerPoint's Insert Menu. Microsoft Clip
Art Gallery, Microsoft Equation 2.0, Microsoft Graph 5.0, Microsoft
Organization Chart 1.0, Microsoft WordArt 2.0 should all install properly
unless the Registration Database is corrupted and or thery are missing from
the Microsoft Folder.

NOTE: Removing the Registration Database may remove critical information
for other OLE applications. You may need to run Setup again for Office 4.x,
Word 6.0, Excel 5.0, and Works 4.0.

MORE INFORMATION
================

The three processes above correct the problem by reregistering Graph 5.0 in
the Registration Database.
