 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, versions 4.0, 4.0a, and 4.0c

SUMMARY
=======

A 256-color bitmap cut or copied from Microsoft Word 6.0 for Windows and
pasted into PowerPoint 4.0 may appear distorted.

This occurs because Word 6.0 for Windows assumes the system palette remains
constant, and places palette information for a Device Dependent Bitmap
(DDB) and a Device Independent Bitmap (DIB) on the Clipboard. Using the
default pasting option brings in the Device Dependent Bitmap.

RESOLUTION
==========

Paste the bitmap into PowerPoint, using the paste special option and choose
Device Independent Bitmap.

MORE INFORMATION
================

PowerPoint is a palette managed application, capable of switching the
system palette when needed. When the system palette used to copy an
image to the Clipboard changes, the Device Dependent Bitmap appears
distorted when pasted.

For best results, use Paste Special to paste bitmaps as device independent.
This forces PowerPoint to use the logical palette to map colors to the
nearest current palette match.
