1. Q. What is Genigraphics?

   A. Genigraphics is the largest network of slide service centers
that image 35-millimeter slides and overhead transparencies.
Genigraphics can also provide custom art and graphics.

The color palette and color schemes in PowerPoint 4.0 were created
by the Genigraphics Corporation. The color palette contains the
90 colors that Genigraphics considers the best for 35-millimeter
slides. The predefined color schemes were created by Genigraphics
      professional-presentation graphic designers.

When you install PowerPoint, the Genigraphics driver and the
GraphicsLink communication program are automatically installed
and configured. Using these utilities and a modem, you can send
your presentations directly to your Genigraphics Service Center.

For more information about Genigraphics services, contact
      Genigraphics Corporation at (800) 638-7348.

2. Q. How do I prepare my PowerPoint 4.0 presentation to be sent to
      Genigraphics?

   A. To prepare your presentation to be sent to Genigraphics, use
      the following six-step procedure:

      1. From the Apple menu, choose Chooser.

      2. In the Chooser dialog box, select the Genigraphics driver.
         Close Chooser.

      3. Open the PowerPoint document, and choose Print from the File
         menu.

      4. Fill in your answers to the Genigraphics job instructions
         questions, and choose OK.

      5. If you want to send your presentation using a modem, fill out the
billing information and choose OK. PowerPoint saves the print
file and provides instructions about how to transmit the file to
         Genigraphics.

      6. If you choose to send your presentation on a disk, a Save As
dialog box appears in which you can specify where you want to
         save the print file.

3. Q. How do I send my presentation print file to Genigraphics?

   A. There are two ways to send your presentation to Genigraphics.
You can either copy your presentation print file to a floppy disk
and mail it to the Genigraphics Service Center, or you can send
it by modem using the GraphicsLink communications program.

To use GraphicsLink, you must have a Hayes-compatible modem.
The instructions for using GraphicsLink are included in a Help
file that is installed with the GraphicsLink program. To access
the Genigraphics Help file, follow these three steps:

      1. From the Help menu, choose PowerPoint Search For Help On.

      2. Type "Genigraphics" (without the quotation marks).

      3. Choose Show Topics. The Genigraphics Help file appears.

Prices and turnaround times vary depending on the service you
request. For up-to-date information about pricing and average
turnaround time, call Genigraphics at (800) 638-7348.

4. Q. What limitations does the Genigraphics driver have?

   A. The Genigraphics driver that ships with PowerPoint 4.0 has three
limitations you should be aware of:

      1. Slides are the only output type you can print using the
Genigraphics driver. If you attempt to print PowerPoint's note
pages, outline pages, or handout pages using the Genigraphics
driver, you will receive an error message.

      2. The Genigraphics driver only supports landscape orientation.

      3. The Genigraphics driver and slide imaging equipment do not work
well with third-party font packages such as Bitstream FaceLift.
In many cases, errors or unexpected results can occur.

5. Q. Can I make images of PowerPoint 4.0 slides myself, without sending
      them to Genigraphics?

   A. If you have a Macintosh-supported film recorder, you can image
your own computer files to 35-millimeter film. The film is then
developed into 35-millimeter slides. PowerPoint 4.0 can use any
film recorder that has a driver that is compatible with and
supported by your Macintosh. You must obtain the appropriate
driver from the manufacturer of your film recorder, or from a
properly licensed software developer. Technical support for these
drivers is provided by the manufacturers of the drivers and/or film
      recorders.

6. Q. What companies make film recorders and film recorder drivers?

   A. The following is a list of seven popular film recorders that
      are available:

      1. Digital Palette is manufactured by Polaroid. To contact Polaroid,
         call (800) 225-1618.

      2. Forte and PCR/QCR are manufactured by Agfa Corporation. To
         contact Agfa, call (800) 937-7787.

The cost of obtaining these drivers varies widely, and depends
solely on the policies of the specific vendor.
