1. Q. How can I translate my PowerPoint 4.0 for the Macintosh
presentation to PowerPoint 3.0 for the Macintosh?

  A. Because PowerPoint 4.0 contains many new features that do not
exist in PowerPoint 3.0, features that are unique to PowerPoint
4.0 will be lost if you save a presentation in PowerPoint 3.0
file format. The following four features are some of the items
that may be lost when you save a PowerPoint 4.0 file in the
     PowerPoint 3.0 format:

     1. Dashed and dotted lines are converted to solid lines.

     2. Rotated PowerPoint objects do not remain rotated.

     3. Hidden slides do not remain hidden.

     4. Rotated text does not remain rotated.

2. Q. How do I convert my PowerPoint 4.0 for the Macintosh
presentation to PowerPoint 4.0 for Windows?

   A. A PowerPoint 4.0 for the Macintosh file can be opened by
PowerPoint 4.0 for Windows directly, without prior translation.

      1. While in Macintosh Powerpoint save the file with an 8
character or less file name followed by a .ppt extension.

      2. Copy the file to a DOS formatted disk or a server that can
         be accessed by both platforms.

      3. Open the file in PowerPoint 4.0 for Windows. When the file
opens, a message that says the file will opened as read-only
is displayed. To edit the file, select Save As from the File
menu and save it with a different file name. You now may
edit the file without a read-only message.

NOTE: Some features are not converted. For example, QuickTime
for the Macintosh is not converted to QuickTime for Windows.

3. Q. How do I convert a PowerPoint 4.0 for the Macintosh presentation
      to PowerPoint 3.0 for Windows?

   A. To convert a file from PowerPoint 4.0 for the Macintosh to
PowerPoint 3.0 for Windows, perform the following two-step
      process:

      1. Save your Macintosh PowerPoint 4.0 presentation as a Macintosh
         PowerPoint 3.0 file.

      2. Open the Macintosh PowerPoint 3.0 presentation directly in
         PowerPoint 3.0 for Windows.

4. Q. How do I convert a PowerPoint 3.0 for Windows presentation to
      PowerPoint 4.0 for the Macintosh?

   A. PowerPoint 3.0 for Windows presentations can be opened directly
in PowerPoint 4.0 for the Macintosh, without prior conversion or
      translation.

5. Q. How do I convert my PowerPoint 4.0 for Windows presentation to
      PowerPoint 4.0 for the Macintosh?

   A. PowerPoint 4.0 for Windows files can be opened directly by
PowerPoint 4.0 for the Macintosh, without prior conversion or
translation. However, some features are not converted. For
example, QuickTime for Windows is not converted to QuickTime for
      the Macintosh.

6. Q. My EPS graphics don't transfer well from PowerPoint 4.0 on
the Macintosh to PowerPoint 4.0 for Windows. What can I do so the
      graphic will transfer nicely?

   A. Because EPS graphics on the Macintosh have a slightly different
preview header than EPS graphics on a Windows machine, you may
see discrepancies in the graphic after the file is converted. Two
      alternatives are provided below:

      1. Instead of inserting an EPS graphic, save the graphic in a PICT
format, and insert it into your PowerPoint presentation.

      2. If you save the EPS graphic from another application that
includes an option to save the graphic with a Windows header,
choose that option. Then insert the EPS graphic into your
         PowerPoint presentation.

7. Q. How can I translate my Persuasion 2.1 files to PowerPoint 4.0?

   A. PowerPoint 4.0 for the Macintosh will read Aldus Persuasion 2.1
files directly. In the Open dialog box select Mac Persuasion 2.1
from the "List Files of Type:" pop-up menu.

The Power Macintosh version of PowerPoint uses a native version of
the translator. To properly function, the translator requires that
Quick Time and the Quick Time PowerPlug extensions are installed.

8. Q. How can I translate my Persuasion 3.0 file to PowerPoint 4.0?

   A. PowerPoint 4.0 cannot read files from Aldus Persuasion version
3.0; however, PowerPoint 4.0 can read Aldus Persuasion files
version 2.1. To translate Persuasion 3.0 files for use in
PowerPoint 4.0, perform the following two steps:

      1. Save the Persuasion version 3.0 file as a Persuasion 2.1
         file.

      2. Open the Persuasion file from PowerPoint's Open dialog box.
