SYMPTOMS
========

In PowerPoint for the Macintosh, the Tab button (located left of the
horizontal ruler) will be solid black if your monitor is set for four
colors or for black and white.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this
problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base
as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND
==========

To reset the monitor so that the tab indicator is visible, follow these
steps:

1. From the Apple menu, choose Control Panels.

2. Open the Monitors or Monitors and Sounds (System 8.x) control panel.

3. Under "Characteristics of selected monitor," select any option except
   "Black & White" or "4".

4. Close the Monitors control panel.

After following these steps, the tab indicator should be visible on the tab
button.

MORE INFORMATION
================

Normally the tab button will have a black tab indicator, which indicates
whether the tab is center aligned, left aligned, right aligned, or decimal
aligned. When the monitor is set for four colors or fewer, this indicator
is no longer visible, although it will still cycle through all of the tab
types as you click on it.
