SUMMARY
=======

Pages 212-214 of the "Microsoft PowerPoint User's Guide" provide
instructions for editing the SETUP.STF file to automatically install
PowerPoint to a workstation. You must run Setup with the /Q switch for
Quite mode (or a "silent" installation) so that the installation runs
without prompting for any input.

When you run Setup, user input is required in several dialog boxes in order
to proceed. The default values in each dialog box will be those specified
in the modified SETUP.STF.

This procedure is documented on page 212 of the "Microsoft PowerPoint
User's Guide" in the section immediately preceding the instructions on how
to modify SETUP.STF.

You cannot perform a silent workstation installation by simply double-
clicking SETUP.EXE in the shared PowerPoint directory from File Manager.
You must use the /Q switch, so you must run setup from a Run command.

MORE INFORMATION
================

To run a silent workstation installation from File Manager, do the
following:

1. From File Manager, switch to the network drive that contains the shared
   PowerPoint directory.

2. Single-click SETUP.EXE.

3. From the File menu, choose Run.

4. SETUP.EXE will be in the command line. Add /Q after SETUP.EXE, so the
   command looks as follows, and choose OK:

      SETUP.EXE /q

HOW TO DISTRIBUTE SETUP USING E-MAIL
====================================

If you are running Microsoft Mail (or another electronic mail package that
supports OLE), you can send a mail message with an attached icon that
allows recipients to run PowerPoint Setup by double-clicking the attached
icon. To attach an icon to an email message that runs PowerPoint Setup with
the /Q switch:

1. Compose a new email message in Mail.

2. From the Edit menu, choose Insert Object.

3. Choose Package from the list of Object types.

4. Object Packager will start. From the Edit menu, choose Command Line.

5. A Command Line dialog box will appear. Type in a command line similar
   to the following

      x:\powerpnt\setup.exe /q

   where x: is the network server. Or type

      \\<server>\<share>\powerpnt\setup.exe /q

   where <server> is the network server name, and <share> is the share
   name.

   NOTE: If you have a modified Setup script file with a name other than
   SETUP.STF, you can include that also. For example:

      f:\powerpnt\setup.exe /t newscript.stf /q

6. Click the Appearance section in Object Packager. Choose an icon that
   you'd like to use.

7. From the File menu, choose Update.

8. From the File menu, choose Exit.

You can now address and send your email message. Recipients of this message
can run PowerPoint Setup by double-clicking the icon.
