SUMMARY
=======

For Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) to support any NetWare
version 4.x servers on a network, a NetWare version 3.x server must be
available somewhere on the network for administration purposes.

MORE INFORMATION
================

SMS only supports NetWare version 4.x servers when they are running with
Bindery Emulation Mode enabled. While NetWare version 4.x does support this
mode, it does not ship with utilities that allow administration of this
bindery. SYSCON ships with NetWare version 3.x and is used to assign user
rights on NetWare version 3.x servers. This same utility is used to
administer NetWare version 4.x servers user accounts in bindery emulation
mode.

The SYSCON tool is required to assign the user group Everyone, and all
associated users, to the NetWare version 4.x servers bindery. This group is
used by SMS to assign rights to SMS-created shares and directories on
NetWare servers.

The NetWare products discussed here are manufactured by Novell, Inc., a
vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise,
regarding these products' performance or reliability.
