SYMPTOMS
========

After working in MS-DOS mode, you receive one of the following error
messages when you return to the graphical interface of Microsoft Windows
95:

 - Not ready reading drive <x>. Abort, Retry, Fail?

   where <x> is the floppy drive letter.

   -or-

 - Error:MSGSRV32 has performed an illegal operation.

Or, your system stops responding (hangs).

CAUSE
=====

If the active drive is an empty floppy disk drive when you quit MS-DOS
mode, these problems can occur.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows 95. We are
researching this problem and will post new information here in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION
================

Exiting MS-DOS mode while the current drive is a floppy disk drive causes
the boot process to slow down greatly. Because the floppy disk drive is the
active drive, Windows 95 checks that drive first before checking the path
for the necessary components.
