The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, versions 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a, 4.0c
 - Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOMS
========

When you paste a shaded table created in Word into PowerPoint, some lines
may appear on the table even though there were none in Word. The lines may
appear when you run a slide show. They occur whether the table has
gridlines or not.

CAUSE
=====

When you apply Shading to a table in Word, Word leaves hairline spaces
between the cells. When you paste the table into PowerPoint, the lines seen
in the table are the PowerPoint background color.

WORKAROUND
==========

To eliminate the lines in PowerPoint, do the following:

1. Use the Rectangle drawing tool to draw a rectangle that exactly covers
   the table.

2. From the Format menu, choose Colors And Lines command (PowerPoint 4.0)
   or choose the Fill command from the Object menu (PowerPoint 3.0). Change
   the fill color of this rectangle to match that of the table.

3. From the Draw menu, choose Send To Back (PowerPoint 4.0) or choose Send
   To Back from the Arrange menu (PowerPoint 3.0).

This will make the background the same color as the table, and the lines
will disappear.
