The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, version 4.0
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

If you copy one or more objects from Aldus Intellidraw version 2.0 and
paste them into a PowerPoint slide, the objects may appear all black.

CAUSE
=====

This problem occurs when Windows uses a 256-color video driver. If you use
the generic VGA display driver that ships with the Windows operating
environment, copying/pasting works correctly.

WORKAROUNDS
===========

If you do not want to use the generic VGA display driver, you can use one
of the following methods to bring graphics created in Intellidraw into
PowerPoint successfully:

Method 1: Insert the Intellidraw Object as a Picture
----------------------------------------------------

1. In Intellidraw, choose Export from the File menu.

2. From the list of available file types, choose one of the following:
   (ANSI)CGM, BMP or TIF.

3. Type a filename in the Filename field. Choose OK.

4. Switch to PowerPoint.

5. From the Insert menu, choose Picture.

6. Select the file you saved from Intellidraw. Choose OK.

Method 2: Paste the Intellidraw Object as a Bitmap
--------------------------------------------------

1. Select the object or objects in Intellidraw.

2. From the Edit menu, choose Copy.

3. Switch to PowerPoint.

4. From the Edit menu, choose Paste Special.

5. From the list of available data types, select Bitmap.

6. Choose Paste.

Method 3: Ungroup the Intellidraw Object in PowerPoint
------------------------------------------------------

1. Select the object or objects in Intellidraw.

2. From the Edit menu, choose Copy.

3. Switch to PowerPoint.

4. From the Edit menu, choose Paste.

5. From the Draw menu, choose Ungroup. You will see the following
   warning:

      This is an imported object, not a group. Converting it to
      PowerPoint objects will permanently discard any embedded
      data or linking information it may contain. Convert to
      PowerPoint objects?

   Choose OK.
