The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, versions 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 4.0a, 4.0c
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUMMARY
=======

When you choose Save As from the File menu and type in a filename that
includes an asterisk (*) or a question mark (?), both of which are illegal
characters for MS-DOS filenames, PowerPoint generates no error messages and
leaves you at the Save As dialog box with the filename highlighted.

NOTE: This behavior is shared by all Windows applications that use the
standard Windows Save and Save As dialog boxes, as well as most other
Windows and MS-DOS applications.
